 How do I know my youth has been spent <\/span><\/h3>\n

Well my get up and go has got up and went.<\/span><\/h3>\n

But in spite of it all I’m able to grin, <\/span><\/h3>\n

When I think of the places my get up has been.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Old age is golden, so I’ve heard it said <\/span><\/h3>\n

But sometimes I wonder, as I get into bed.<\/span><\/h3>\n

With my ears in a drawer, and my teeth in a cup <\/span><\/h3>\n

And my eyes on the table until I get up.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Ere sleep dims my eyes, I say to my self <\/span><\/h3>\n

“Is there any thing else I should lay on the shelf”?<\/span><\/h3>\n

But I am happy to say as I close my door, <\/span><\/h3>\n

My friends are the same, only more even more.<\/span><\/h3>\n

When I was young, my slippers were red <\/span><\/h3>\n

I could kick up my heels over my head<\/span><\/h3>\n

When I grew older my slippers were blue <\/span><\/h3>\n

But still I could dance, the whole night thru.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Now I am old, my slippers are black <\/span><\/h3>\n

I walk to the store, and puff my way back.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The reason I know my youth is all spent <\/span><\/h3>\n

My get up and go has got up and went.<\/span><\/h3>\n

But I really don’t mind, as I reminisce <\/span><\/h3>\n

My get up and go gave me such wonderful bliss.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Since I am retired from life’s competition. <\/span><\/h3>\n

I busy myself with complete repetition.<\/span><\/h3>\n

I get up in the morning, dust off my wits <\/span><\/h3>\n

Pick up my paper, and read the obits.<\/span><\/h3>\n

If my name is missing I know I’m not dead <\/span><\/h3>\n
